The leadership of American companies has remained largely exclusive for generations. Diversity was never fully attainable, because underrepresented candidates rarely had access to the same career opportunities as equally talented candidates of privilege. From the beginning, we’ve believed that companies should reflect the diversity of their communities. The result is a stronger, more resilient, and inclusive local workforce.
Since its inception in 2016, The Script has made it our mission to remove the barriers for diverse young talent and replace them with opportunities and a supportive community. Our Internship Program matches underrepresented college students and recent grads with paid internships at top companies in the region.
The Internship Program has engaged over 2,000 applicants from underserved communities and has successfully placed more than 800 individuals in paid internships across more than 250 companies in various industries within the Portland area since 2016. Additionally, with the support of our community, and the commitment of our company partners, The Script strives to advance more inclusive and quality workplaces and provide opportunities for our underserved communities to build their self confidence in the workplace, enhance their skills and professional portfolio, and increase their network.
As we have grown and continue to grow, so has the program depth. Our Associate Program provides further professional development and direct career pipelines for college graduates from marginalized communities. The overarching goal of our work is to enhance the diversity of Oregon’s workforce and facilitate the swift connection of young talent to higher-wage jobs, thereby promoting economic mobility.
The work and growth of The Script initiative is made possible through the intentional support of our team, donors, partners, volunteers and advocates of our work. Join us in contributing to this work and be a part of movement dedicated to closing the wealth gap!
